I ha've a voice recorder Austin which has 13 hours. You may have to get someone to read the instructions, but I figured mine out without them. Good luck.

Go to www.speaktomecatalog.com and there you will find the ds50 which should do it for you. You also might look around at bestbuy and circuit city to see if you can get a ds50 cheeper. Amazon.com might be the way to go.

I've heard that the Olympus DS-50 is really good. It has one gig of memory and you can store music, audible files from audible.com, and recordings. When you record something, it records in WMA format. Good luck and I'm thinking of getting one too!!

Ok, so I heard on tv, that there is this little digital voice recorder great for shopping lists, and all that good stuff. It's called my lil reminder. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of it, and if anyone has it. I'm not exactly sure how much space it has or anything like that, but it's just a suggestion. Does anyone know of any other digital recorders out there?

Well, I've seen and heard the results of the Olympus DS series, and they're not too shabby. They have noise reduction and filtering built in. Another option is the Milestone 311. Its a bit more blind friendly with fewer controls, but fewer features as well.

Does the milestone voice recorder have a website that you can look at? Thanks, Macy

I think independent living aids do the milestone. if they do it's at www.independentliving.com. and i'd go for the ds50 too. i have a ds30 and love it. you may also try ebay as well as amazon for picking one up.
cheers,
simon

The little reminder thing only lets you record for several seconds at a time, as i understood the commercial. pretty dumb device, really

Post 10 by singingsensation (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 21-Dec-2007 11:17:33

I have seen the little reminder voice recorder online, and yeah, there is no point in getting it because you can only record for so many seconds at a time. I think it's pretty worthless to get one of those--if you ask me.

Post 11 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 24-Dec-2007 18:35:15

I so want an Olympus DS50.

Post 12 by singingsensation (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 28-Dec-2007 0:09:43

I do too--actually, I wanted it for Christmas but my parents, especially my dad, think that voice recorders are for professionals. Which is not true. They are for anyone who wants to use one. I'm so mad!!!!!!! Grrr!!! So yeah, I have been wanting one for a while. I have heard some recordings and they are excellent. My friend has one but he goes to college so I guess that would make a difference? I dunno. Any suggestions on what I should do? I want one but I can't ask my parents because they'll just tell me no.
Thanks.

everyone who wants one look on ebayt or amazon. there the best places to get stuff like that. I have an olympus ds 30 but wish now I had the 50 damnit!

Or, they sell the Olympus DSS-30, 40 and 50 at RNIB. Ring Customer Services on +44800023153 or check out www.rnib.org.uk/shop. I got the DSS40 for my Birthday, but have only recently started usingit as the software needs some sighted assistance when loading it on to your PC or laptop, but this voice recorder is more or less fully speech enabled, with the acceptions of setting the time, date and the names of your folders for some strange reason, lol, so you'll need sighted assistance to adjust the clock or look in a particular folder, but other than that, I think £150 was money very well spent on my main birthday present by my mum.

Speaking of crappy recorders. icanseebooks.com has some pretty crappy stuff if you ask me. I bought their calculator. A week later the battery spring thing snapped. Wowhwhwhwhw there goes the calculator. And all of the crap they have only record 10 seconds: keychanes, magnets, it's whacky how much there is there, but it's also whacky how 10 sconds? I can't even say my address, phone number, email and name in 10 seconds...

Post 22 by The SHU interpreter (I just keep on posting!) on Monday, 27-Apr-2009 21:26:00

is there an improvement in the digital recorder because i am planning to update my recorder because the one i have is a soni but at that time, there weren't any accessible recorders.
+ the software is not accessible at all and sometimes i need to download the lectures to my computer to save them.
i heard that the ds 70 is better because it is more accessible out of the olimpus series, is that true?
if anhyone has the olympus ds 70, please reply.
thank you very much.

What's wrong with recording on a PDA and I know a lot of us carry those. It's cheap and efficient.

Post 24 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Sunday, 11-Oct-2009 20:22:06

I use my BP or my iphone for recording, works wonderfully.

Post 25 by Siriusly Severus (The ESTJ 1w9 3w4 6w7 The Taskmaste) on Monday, 12-Oct-2009 21:19:25

BP? Yeah, that works too and you don't have to buy anything extra.

Post 26 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Monday, 12-Oct-2009 23:05:59

Has anyone tried the Vyper Wryter Video Pen? It's apparently anaudio/video recorder that Speak To Me Catalog sells. I'm considering getting that since I already have an MP3 player that I'm happy with, and it's the least expensive thing I found to record long pieces. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it as another accessible recorder.

Post 27 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Monday, 12-Oct-2009 23:34:58

BP. Braille plus.

I use my victor reader stream for recording. Just connect an external microphone and the somewhat poor quallity is fixed. also it can record up to 8 hours at a time.

Post 29 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 13-Oct-2009 9:25:04

Really? My Stream says I have 306 hours of recording left on it, and I've already recorded for about 12 hours. I record two three hour college lectures every Wednesday. The internal microphone isn't bad, but you can definitely use an external microphone for better quality.

The Olympis recorders are really cool because most of them record in stereo, although I would suggest buying better quality binoral microphones if possible.

Post 30 by cumbiambera2005 (i just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 13-Oct-2009 9:31:52

I was considering getting a victor stream for that purpose, but I didn't realize the quality is bad? Would the Braille Note's recorder be better then?

Post 31 by Siriusly Severus (The ESTJ 1w9 3w4 6w7 The Taskmaste) on Tuesday, 13-Oct-2009 21:15:01

According to many here the BN's recorder is bad or the internal mic is, you heard it ashley that time we spoke in that conference. I couldn't see it when I tried. It wasn't so bad except it recorded all my typing as well, so I just got a external because I didn't want my typing on the recording.
